RESOURCES FOR MI STUDENTS
The Faculty of Information and the University of Toronto at large have many resources to help support MI students thrive while completing their studies. Listed below are some of these resources that we chose to highlight that can help support the MI student body.
OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR & STUDENT SERVICES (OSSR)
The Office fo the Registrar and Student Services (OSSR) is a team at the iSchool that is committed to facilitating students’ academic and overall student experience at the University of Toronto and the Faculty of Information. They help perform the registrational functions at the iSchool and are the first stop for students experiencing any difficulties at the school including academic, financial, personal, and for general advising.
Some ways that the OSSR supports iSchool students includes the following:
ACADEMIC ADVISORS
At the OSSR, there are Academic Advisors that can assist and advise iSchool students with a wide variety of academic and other general topics that may affect a student’s time while at the iSchool. Some services that the Academic Advisors provide include the following:
- One-on-one 30-minute appointment with an Academic Advisor
- Virtual drop-in sessions
- In-person drop-in sessions
CAREER SERVICES
The Careers team is here to help students, through a variety of programs and services, facilitate their jobs searches and career development. The team supports students seeking out resources, opportunities and advice regarding their career development. Some of the services that the Careers team provides include the following:
- The Simplicity platform system for students seeking jobs and career preparation
- A one-on-one confidential appointment with an advisor
- Career and networking events
The OSSR provides a wide variety of other services including the following:
- Recruitment and Admission Inquiries
- Orientation
- Academic and general advising and guidance
- Student counselling and resource referral
- Degree and program requirements
- Course registration and enrolment
- Fee payment or fee deferral
- Financial counselling/grant applications
- Petitions/appeals
- Wellness programming
- Mentorship and networking opportunities

LEARNING HUB
The Learning Hub is a team of iSchool faculty, staff, and students that strive to help students and instructors feel more capable and motivated in their work. Their team strives to enhance academic rigour, individual efficacy, and a sense of community across the iSchool.
Because they are run by iSchool faculty, staff and students, they know exactly what kinds of challenges students and instructors face, they know what skills you need for success, and – perhaps best of all – they’re free. The Learning Hub is a part of your iSchool experience.
Some ways that the Learning Hub supports the iSchool community is through the following:
iSKILLS CO-CURRICULAR WORKSHOPS
iSkills workshops enable current students and alumni to learn professional, academic, and technical skills beyond the classroom. The Learning Hub offers workshops during the Fall and Winter terms, and occasionally during the Summer term. Further information will also be provided via email to your inbox so keep an eye out for that!
Registration is required for all workshops and there are cancelation and no-show policies in place. Please refer to the link to the iSchool Workshops website below for more details.

TUTORING
The Learning Hub offers academic tutoring in writing, technical skills, and research methods. Each of their tutors have several areas of specialty (e.g., content specializations, writing genres, program/platform familiarity, analytical approaches, research designs).
Their tutoring program isn’t singularly focused on helping you with a specific assignment; they want to help you develop as a student in ways that will benefit you across your scholarly and professional life. Enrolled students can sign up for tutoring via the Virtual Learning Hub on Quercus ↗

TECHNOLOGY LOANS
Technology and accessories are available for loan to Faculty of Information students, staff and faculty. Items are loaned by TCard on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
Technology that is on loan includes:
- Laptops, Tablets, and Accessories
- Adapters and Cables
- E-book Readers (3-day loan)
- Cameras, Lighting, Recorders, Microphones, and Tripods (3-day loan)
- Digital Projectors
- Miscellaneous Equipment
