  1. MISC Presents: iSchool Clothing Swap

Event date: Thursday March 16, 2017 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Location: Bissell Building, 7th floor Student Lounge

The iSchool will be having its first official Clothing Swap next month, open to all students, staff, and faculty. Many of you went home for Reading Week, so it’s a great opportunity to bring back some stuff you no longer want to become new-to-me clothing in someone else’s closet.

How it works: Drop off your old clothes and pick out new ones to take home. Make sure to bring a reusable bag or other item to keep the items you take away – though we will try to have a box of garbage bags just in case. There is no entry fee or ticket process, you can take and leave as many items as you like!

Accepted items: Men’s & Women’s Clothing (jackets, coats, pants, jeans, leggings, sweatpants, shorts, skirts, t-shirts, tanks/sleeveless tops, dress shirts, sweaters, cardigans, hoodies, blazers, dresses, shoes, boots, sandals, workout tops and bottoms, sports bras, bras, undergarments with the tag still on) and Accessories (hats, mittens, belts, scarves, ties, socks, purses, wallets, backpacks, bags, jewellery).

If it’s worn out and you want to get rid of it, please bring it! It can be difficult to find and get to a donation site so we’ll be taking care of that. Leftover items will be taken to Double Take Thrift Store. The more worn in items will go to a facility to be recycled. If it’s not on the list, please contact Amber at amber.shortell@mail.utoronto.ca and I’ll let you know if it’s accepted or not. Please email Amber if you’d like to volunteer to help out at the event. If you can’t make it on Thursday but still want to donate and/or have a lot of stuff to donate and want to drop it off ahead of time, please email misc.ischool@utoronto.ca to arrange a drop-off time or potential pick-up.

  1. iSchool Book Club Meeting 2

Event date: Tuesday March 7, 2017 4:00 PM

    Location: Student Lounge

    Website link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1828609894088661/

The second meeting of the iSchool Book Club will be on Tuesday, March 7th at 4:00pm. The winner of the poll for this month’s book is The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis. This young adult novel is about Alex, who is haunted by her sister’s murder three years ago, and what happens when she takes violent revenge on her sister’s killer. The novel presents an unflinching takedown of rape culture and slut-shaming. Content Warning for discussions of rape and animal cruelty.

No participation in previous meetings is required to jump into this month’s! We hope that this book club will facilitate critical thinking and lively discussion about a specific monthly book, and also provide a community through which interested iSchool students can embrace their love of reading and meet others who share this love. Often the intense studies required in Grad School make it difficult to continue to pursue non-academic reading, and we hope that a book club can act as a source of momentum for anyone who wants encouragement to read more. Keep up to date with what’s going on in the bookclub through our Facebook group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1828609894088661/
