  1. ACA – TAAG Presents: Grant-writing for Archives: A Workshop with Raegan Swanson

The Toronto Area Archivists Groups (TAAG) would like to invite you to a grant-writing workshop with CLGA Executive Director, Raegan Swanson. The workshop will cover fundraising strategies for small- to medium-sized organizations focusing on writing a strong case for support for grant applications. Examples will include the Documentary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP) and Young Canada Works (YCW). The morning’s session will also provide general strategies that can be applied to create successful grant applications of all kinds.

Raegan serves as the Executive Director of the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives. She holds a BA from Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface and a Masters of Information from the University of Toronto iSchool. She has worked as an archivist at Library and Archives Canada, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute and as the Archival Advisor for the Council of Archives New Brunswick. She is currently working on her PhD focusing on the role of community archives in Aboriginal and Inuit communities in Quebec.

  1. GSU – Graduate Student Union Annual General Meeting

Meet graduate students from all different faculties and departments at the GSU Annual General Meeting.  While MISC represents MI students on the GSU council year-round, this is your opportunity to see the action, pass motions and meet fellow grad students from all over U of T.  Join us after the meeting at the GSU pub for drinks and snacks. The meeting will be held on Monday, December 3rd.  Location TBD.

UTGSU members can submit proposals for consideration and discuss important union matters such as finances, campaigns, and the direction of the union. To submit an item to be considered on the agenda please submit all proposals or any questions to David Eaton, the Executive Director at executivedirector@utgsu.ca. Deadline to submit items is November 19th, 2018.

  1. OLA Super Conference Volunteer Registration – Save The Date!

The 2019 Ontario Library Association (OLA) Super Conference is seeking enthusiastic students and recent graduates to fill volunteer shifts. The OLA Super Conference runs from January 29 to February 1, 2019 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and is a great opportunity to network, gain exposure to a wide variety of libraries and information work, learn new skills, and attend Canada’s largest conference for library professionals.

  1. MISC – MI Family Holiday Potluck

On Sunday, December 9th, join MISC and your MI family for a holiday potluck. It is sure to be festive and fun!

We strongly encourage people to bring a dish–big or small. It can be sweet, salty, spicy, savoury…anything your heart desires! Vegan and vegetarian options would be great too! The sign-up sheet link is just below.
