Led by artist Kanika Gupta, participants will make 3-D works of art, with the opportunity to have the artwork featured in the Art & Mindfulness exhibition, as well as Kanika’s future exhibitions.

This hands-on immersive activity allows participants to examine and re-imagine the parts that make us whole. Participants engage first-hand in finding new ways to put their pieces together in an artful, creative, and insightful form of recovery for the pain that may exist in their lives. Shape, form, and function will be explored through the creation of these works of art.

Note: This is not a drop-in workshop, participants are required to stay for the full hour so as not to disrupt the mindfulness process of the workshop.

  1. Digital Tattoo – Call for Submissions

Contact:  digital.tattoo@ubc.ca – subject line DIGITAL TATTOO SUBMISSION

Digital Tattoo is a collaborative project between the University of British Columbia Library and the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre Learning Commons, along with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information. The goal of Digital Tattoo is to encourage students to think about digital identity, question what it means to be a digital citizen, and engage in conversations around digital issues. We are currently accepting blog-style written submissions for a broad student audience. This is a great opportunity to have work published within a professional community. Entries should be between 400 and 600 words, covering topics such as

  • Our Data: surveillance, privacy, uses.
  • Digital Citizenship: access, freedom and responsibility
  • Privacy on the Internet: expectations, rights, and responsibilities
  • Sharing and re-using: ethics, ownership, copyright.

Please send all written submissions to digital.tattoo@ubc.ca with the subject line DIGITAL TATTOO SUBMISSION and the following:

  • Name and Program
  • Proposed Title for your submission
  • Confirmation that your submission is original content that has not been posted or published elsewhere

Be sure to check out the Digital Tattoo website for examples of tone and topics.

  1. Varsity Referendum for Levy Fee

Vote:  http://voting.utoronto.ca

Timeline: Wednesday February 28-Friday March 2

Contact: emma@thevarsity.ca

Next week The Varsity (UofT student newspaper circa 1880) is hosting a referendum to include grad students in its membership. The Varsity publishes weekly, with 20,000 copies distributed across the 3 campuses. There is also a magazine published each semester, Futures.

If passed, grads can contribute articles to & work for the Varsity. The levy fee will be $0.80 per semester.

MISC wholeheartedly supports this referendum, as it will allow iStudents to better engage with the wider U of T community & obtain campus employment. Working for the Varsity includes opportunities as contributors, graphic designers, editors, advertising executives and web designers.

Currently, grad students cannot be hired as staff, sit on the Board of Directors, nor contribute more than 2 articles yearly with the paper. As such, articles featuring grads are written by undergrads. If passed, all opportunities to contribute will be open to grads.

We encourage you to exercise your democratic right. From February 28 to March 2nd, you can vote online at voting.utoronto.ca. If you have any questions/comments, please contact Emma Findlay-White at emma@thevarsity.ca.

Emma is a first-year MI candidate at the iSchool & an advertising executive with The Varsity.
