Who Are We?

The Master of Information Student Council (MISC) is a group of elected volunteers that work to improve student life for MI students in the UofT Faculty of Information. Elected members take on various positions, such as advocating for student needs with various student groups, organizing events and professional development opportunities, and creating a sense of community among students. All of MISC’s work is done by and for MI students.

Want to get involved? Take a look at our current Council Members to see what kind of positions are available. We hold elections in the Fall for first year positions, and Spring for Upper Year positions. Make sure to check our social media and MISC newsletter for updates on how to get involved!

Student Choice Initiative

The SCI is a policy directive proclaimed in January 2019 by the Ontario provincial government. This directive mandates universities to enable all students to opt out individually from non-tuition ancillary fees that the government considers non-mandatory. Most student union fees are non-mandatory according to the SCI framework.

MISC opposes the Student Choice Initiative and its interference with the ability for students to mobilize independently. The info sheet below explains how the Student Choice Initiative negatively impacts the MI student body. More information about the Student Choice Initiative and its impact on all University students can be found at www.utgsu.ca/about/sci/.

In order to access the services provided by MISC and the Tech Fund, you must remain opted into your fees for both fall and winter terms.
